Death in a Duel – an Interpretation of a Triple Burial from St. Peter’s Churchyard

  • There will be demonstrations lasting approximately 20 minutes throughout. These will feature photographs of human skeletons showing injuries. Combat scenes will be re-enacted behind a barrier.

Around 1200, three men were buried together at the St Peter’s churchyard. Their injuries indicate that they all died in combat. How did this come about? In short demonstrations, forensic evidence is examined, medieval judicial duels are discussed, and the fighting is re-enacted using reconstructed weapons. There are 20-minute demonstrations taking place throughout the night.
