House of World Cultures
Two disabled parking spaces are located in front of the right-hand entrance to the main foyer, another is located to the left of the barrier in front of the east driveway to the building. The HKW has barrier-free, step-free entrances to the main foyer. Further barrier-free entrances can be found on the west and north sides of the building. The entrances to the main foyer on the south side of the building have wheelchair-accessible intercom systems. A barrier-free lift leads to the basement and mezzanine floor. A further lift on the mezzanine floor leads to the roof terrace. There are two gender-neutral toilet facilities for people with reduced mobility in the basement and on the mezzanine floor. Wheelchairs can be borrowed from the counter.
At the main entrance to the HKW, a tactile model provides orientation on the levels of the building. Information on the architecture of the building and its surroundings is available in Braille and high-contrast visual lettering. Glass doors are labelled with safety markings. The lifts are equipped with tactile lettering. The stopping position is announced.

This former congress centre was built in the 1950s and gifted to West Berlin by the government of the United States. In 1989, it became the House of World Cultures, a forum for contemporary art and critical debate. Exhibitions, concerts and performances highlight artistic standpoints, scientific concepts and political issues.
