FAQ

The Long Night of Museums takes place on August 24, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Some of the museums located outside the city centre open as early as 5 pm and close at midnight: the Archenhold Observatory in Treptow, the Energy Museum in Lankwitz, the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial, the Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Charlottenburg and the Mitte Museum near Gesundbrunnen. Best to start your evening there!

The two children’s museums – Labyrinth Children’s Museum in Wedding and MACHmit! Children’s Museum in Prenzlauer Berg – are open from 4 to 10 pm. The Wilhelm Foerster Observatory in Schöneberg only opens from 8 pm, when it gets dark, to midnight.

From July 29 to August 11, the ticket costs 12 euros, if discounted, 10 euros; from 12 – 24 August, it costs 18 euros, if discounted, 12 euros. Children up to the age of 12 have free admission, but need a children’s ticket, which is free of charge.

All information on tickets and discounts is available here.

The ticket enables you to visit all 75 participating museums and use the Long Night shuttle buses.

You can start your Long Night anywhere, for example at a museum in your own neighbourhood. At all participating museums, you’ll receive tickets and folding maps with information about the museums and their programmes.

If you don’t know your way around in Berlin, or if you would like some tips, come to our Museum Island meeting point. We can advise you there in both German and English.

Berlin has a very well-developed public transport network (BVG). From Saturdays to Sundays, all underground (U-Bahn) and suburban (S-Bahn) trains, as well as many trams and buses, run all night. If you don’t have a BVG season ticket or Deutschlandticket, we recommend you buy a 24-hour AB ticket for 9.90 euros. It’s valid for one adult and up to three children aged 6 to 14; younger children travel for free. Taking a bicycle with you costs an additional 5.50 euros.

During the Long Night of Museums, four bus shuttles will take you to museums in Charlottenburg, northern Mitte / Prenzlauer Berg, Lichtenberg and Tempelhof-Schöneberg. In addition, there will also be a short shuttle from the S-Bahn station Treptower Park to Archenhold Observatory. The shuttle lines, stops and journey times can be found here.

We recommend that you visit no more than four or five museums. Berlin is large, and the distances between museums can be long. Allow yourself time for encounters and new impressions and give yourself the freedom to make spontaneous decisions.

You can enter most of the 75 participating museums at any time without having to wait. However, be prepared for waiting times to enter some of the museums in Berlin-Mitte. During the Long Night of Museums, this website will indicate whether this applies to individual museums.

For security reasons, many museums require you to deposit all rucksacks and large bags in cloakrooms or to store them in lockers.

There are many events during the Long Night for which you don’t need to speak German, such as concerts, DJ sets, performances and workshops. Many museums offer guided tours in English; other languages are also offered by some.

Photos and videos will be taken during the Long Night of Museums and will be used exclusively to promote the Long Night of Museums on our social media channels, the LNDM website and in print brochures. The right of use does not pass to third parties.

By participating in events at the Long Night of Museums Berlin 2024, you agree to the possible publication of image and sound material in which you can be seen.
