Ōgai's autobiographically inspired novella “The Dancing Girl” is considered the beginning of modern literature in Japan. It tells the story of a Japanese scholarship holder who finds happiness in love with a dancer in Berlin in the 1880s. Nora Bartels' guided tour of the permanent exhibition focuses on this controversial love story.
