Founded by Klaus Biesenbach in the early 1990s in a former margarine factory, the KW Institute for Contemporary Art – KW for short – is one of the most important institutions for contemporary art in Germany today. It also houses artists’ studios and serves as the central exhibition venue for the Berlin Biennale.
