The Deer Mask – Horned God or Symbol of a Hunting Spell

Waiting times on site
  • Duration approx. 30 min
  • in German

With the deer mask in front of his face, the hunter becomes an animal. Unnoticed, he can approach and kill the deer. Or do we have the 11,000-year-old mask of a shaman in front of us, with which the prey of the hunt was to be banished and the luck of the hunt conjured up? Both were of great importance for hunters to survive in post-glacial Europe.

At the moment, visitors with mobility issues are only able to access the Neues Museum via the eastern entrance and via the lift on the southern side of the building. The goods lift in the Neues Museum is currently out of service. Access to the Neues Museum from the Archaeological Promenade is currently unavailable for visitors with mobility issues.
