- Please note that, due to the tight budgetary situation and limited staffing levels at the State Museums of Berlin, the upper floor (with the exception of the special exhibition “Grundstein Antike. Berlin’s First Museum”) will unfortunately not be accessible during the Long Night of Museums.

### About the museum

The Altes Museum, built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, houses masterpieces from the ancient Greeks and Romans as well as the largest collection of Etruscan art outside Italy. Opened in 1830, it was Berlin’s very first museum. The current special exhibition to mark its 200th anniversary shows what the museum looked like at the time it was built and what was most interesting to the visitors back then.
